AWOL

A place where we are trying to [re]learn how to be in harmony with the natural systems around us.  Recognising the harm caused by the systems of disconnection that fuel our current culture. A place where we are attempting to live in reciprocity with each other and the Earth.

Come....embrace the opportunity to embody Another Way of Living.

EVENTS

Winter Solstice Celebrations

June 20, 2019

Join us in celebrating the transition from darkness back into light, saying farewell to the long nights and welcoming the increasing daylight hours. Reconnecting with our ancestral traditions and collectively creating something meaningful, together.

Please feel free to bring your loved ones.

We ask that you bring some nourishing Winter food and/or drink to share. Think about the foods and drinks that evoke Winter to you...

As we are all creating this event together - if you have something to offer the group, please do so - it could be a tradition or ritual for the Winter Solstice or something else.

Depending on the weather we may be cosy inside with the wood fires on or we may be dancing under the stars with a small bonfire.

What can you offer to help make it a wonderful celebration?
What do you need to make it meaningful for you?

AWOL Tour for Harvest Festival

April 27, 2019

We will guide you through an in-depth tour of the property, starting with the broader landscape which we are situated in, through to the household, garden and living systems which enable us to thrive with little monetary expense.

We will demonstrate how to make a rocket stove from a salvaged patio heater - enabling you to cook (like on a hot plate) with just a few sticks.

We will show you through both houses - the newer cottage is a solar passive house built with a lot of salvaged materials and the older house is mid renovation, making it more comfortable and functional with a very tiny budget.

There's also the veggie garden, orchard, chickens, turkeys, bees, backyard gardens, larder, cellar (in the making) and more...

SOCIAL PERMACULTURE can be viewed as the application of permaculture principles and design methodology to the creation of a sustainable society. It is at the cutting edge of permaculture, and your tutors are pioneers in this field..

Permaculture Principles become especially valuable and inspiring when used to design our groups, learning environments and social systems. When groups work effectively and harmoniously together towards the aims and purpose of the group, our world and the environment benefits and so does each individual. Robin has pioneered Social Permaculture around the world and brings her passion for creating deep change through effective, dynamic group work and co-operation between groups. Robina has considerable experience in using social permaculture as the core foundation of her landuse design consultancies, from housing clusters in ecovillages, to outdoor classrooms in school yards. Her facilitation is always aimed at building community.

On this transformational personal and collective adventure, we will co-create a culture that engages, enables and empowers, whilst embracing diversity and deepening connections. The wisdom of the group will help shape our learnings, through the cross fertilisation of best practices. You will leave this course with a deep understanding of how groups function and a packed solutions-based facilitation toolbox to apply in your community development work.

This workshop is based at AWOL: Another Way of Living, a family-built learning and living environment  where the residents are playing with their intergenerational opportunities.

Topics include:

  • Using the Principles of Permaculture and how they apply to social change

  • Fluency in using Permaculture Principles for social permaculture design and people care

  • Interactive experience and communication

  • Building group effectiveness and supporting the purpose of the group

  • Group Dynamics and Groupwork skills

  • Motivation and confidence to act for change and be involved in group activities

Teacher training Course at AWOL in Wamboin by Dynamics Groups (only 25mins from Canberra) immediately after the APC.

Dates:Monday 23th April till Lunchtime Saturday 28th April
Venue: AWOL, Another Way Of Living, Wamboin, NSW

Teachers:  Robin-clayfield

The course equips people with the understanding and skills of what is ‘best practice’, ‘leading edge’ learning and facilitation methods through immersion and practical hands on experiences.

It models and creatively empowers participants to create their own Dynamic Groups through putting together all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle of what is important and often essential for effective learning and group work to be successful. This aspect probably makes it the most holistic learning methodology around.

A huge ‘toolbox’ is built and expands throughout the course, full of creative processes, ‘glue processes’, all kinds of appropriate and useful processes.

The things that really set it apart from other learning methodologies and courses is the interactive learning environment, the creative processes and the underlying commitment to the empowerment of every person and the group as a whole.

Robin Clayfield is an internationally acclaimed facilitator, educator, author and social change practitioner who regularly facilitates courses in Australia and overseas. She is best known for training and coaching a diverse cross-section of leaders, facilitators and educators to effectively engage their audiences through creative, interactive processes and innovative learning models.

This workshop is based at AWOL: Another Way of Living, a family-built learning and living environment  where the residents are playing with their intergenerational opportunities.
